LUGAS SYLLABUS
(b. Indonesia, 1987)

Lugas Syllabus uses a rabbit-dragon hybrid to illustrate risk and how one cannot always wait for the perfect timing, but sometimes must dare to jump in to achieve results. Inspired by the action sequences depicted through the panels of comic books, the sculpture is described as a ‘three dimensional comic work’ – transforming staggered action captured on paper, to fluid and seamless movement in reality. Lugas’ works typically address the contradictions and ironies that exist in modern and contemporary society. Woven into his pieces are narratives and iconography from pop culture, media and technology; coupled with memories and folklore. He completed his undergraduate degree in painting at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI), Yogyakarta and his exhibitions include Tomorrow Must Be Better (2017) at Element Art Space, Shanghai; Natural Born Worker (2017) at Finale Art File, Philippines and The Garden of Triumph (2016) at Art Stage Singapore.
